If you are pale it is okay if people make fun of you. Making fun of people for the way they look is perfectly fine at DU. Got it. So don't bother to welcome me I don't hang out with people who think the way I look is a joke.

You know what is not wise?

Somehow feeling that a joke about skin tone among people who share that tone is in some way an attack.

That line of reasoning is suspect in my eyes. It's a type of false equivalence.

It's ridiculous even if sincere, and in reality it's usually just a transparent attempt to score vague "points" at the expense of the person being chastised.

Nobody is harmed when a Polish/Irish person roughly the same shade as Elmer's glue makes a comment about the tone of two very pale men.

Similarly, when Kat Stevens made a jokes about Bernie Mac's skin tone nobody - other than racists looking to paint themselves as virtuous arbiters of fairness -even blinked.
