My favorite Wild Horses version. Like it better than the original... Couldn't find the studio version, damnit!

(11,803 posts)It's a great one!
Mister Ed
(5,950 posts)And Merry Clayton's guest vocals on that track win my vote for greatest single vocal performance in rock 'n' roll.
Glamrock
(11,803 posts)Don't say that to Glamrock. He's got this weird obsession with Steve Marriott.... Hey wait a minute! I'm Glamrock! You're just wrong!
(I was channeling my good friend Polack MSgt)
All kidding aside, one of my favorite tunes and she is definately in the running for that title.

(17,186 posts)There's no Highest Volume Allowed on this one. Plus, Charlie . . .
As a novelty, but they understand, and capture what it's all about, with exuberance:

(3,064 posts)And Merry's blistering 0:30 solo damn near melted my first copy of "Let It Bleed."
Best solo ever.

Off topic of the Stones, sorry Glam!

(4,671 posts)I was humming along to the Muzak and didn't really notice until I starting singing the chorus. It was Estimated Prophet by the Grateful Dead. It was kinda trippy. Edit: I meant the whole experience was trippy. That version of the song was definitely not.

This second, I can remember as a kid driving through High Cliff State Park.
My dad had this song on the radio.
Just one of those memories that stick.

(11,803 posts)Damn I love Mick Taylor era Stones! Not that I don't love Brian and Ronnie, but those Mick Taylor records were incredible.
I've sung Dead Flowers almost everytime I've ever gone to see The Steepwater Band. They always call me up for that one. Speaking of which, are you two aware of them? They play in Chicago a lot. Usually the DoubleDoor. Highly recommended. You guys would love em. Had I not been married I'd be fronting that band today... If that tells you anything about their sound. I'm telling ya, you guys would love em.
By the way, posted some live footage of me over the weekend if you two ain't seen it. In the MA group.
Sorry to hear you're snowed in. At least you got good company. I got out just in time. Had to drive down to Kentucky Sunday night....
dawg day
(7,947 posts)I don't know if it was originally anti-war, but that show about the infantry in Vietnam (Tour of Duty) used it as the theme song.
That was a good show.

Miss You never fails to get me fired up. It's so ... disco-y, but just so damn fun.
Gimme Shelter and Sympathy For the Devil are in a class all of their own.
(I love the Jane's version of Sympathy, too. XXX is an amazing album. That Pigs in Zen still kills me every time. And Summertime Rolls. Good stuff.)
Glamrock
(11,803 posts)It was actually rhetorical.
But then everyone started answering and a fun thread was born!
And totally agree with everything you said, hap. Love that early Janes stuff too!

LiberalLovinLug
(14,180 posts)And it kinda has fun with the rural religious Trump voting yokels. I think I once heard that Bakersfield is like one of the most concentrated RW Christian communities in California. And we all know that "some girls" brought up in a strict religious community are the ones with "far away eyes".
