Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G. Among 2020's Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
January 15, 2020 8:06 AM ET
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 35th annual class of inductees, honoring six musical acts Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G. and T-Rex as well as veteran rock journalist, producer and artist manager Jon Landau.
The inducted musicians were chosen from a ballot of 16 finalists, which meant fans of Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, Judas Priest, Kraftwerk, MC5, Motörhead, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Todd Rundgren, Soundgarden and Thin Lizzy will have to wait at least another year for Rock Hall validation.
Speaking on Morning Edition Monday, music writer Evelyn McDonnell discussed a study she'd conducted, which revealed that only 69 of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 888 members fewer than 8% were women. With the latest announcement, the ratio grows slightly more lopsided, with only Houston joining the Hall's ranks alongside B.I.G. and members of four all-male bands.
Here's a quick rundown of the 2020 class:

Cleveland.com reports:
The posthumous inductees Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G. will lead this years class into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Theyll be joined by Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T. Rex.
Houston, the gospel-trained singer with the soaring voice, had a string of No. 1 singles including I Will Always Love You.
Before being killed in a drive-by shooting in 1997, Biggie was a leader of East Coast rap. The annual induction ceremony is being held in Cleveland this year and is being televised live for the first time ever, on May 2.
Nominee Kraftwerk was passed over for the sixth time.

(3,447 posts)that were supposed to be tallied alongside the member votes, resulted in this vote? Dave Matthews Band had over 1 million fan votes, Pan Benatar almost 890,000--but 888 members swung the votes? How much did fan votes count? Apparently not at all.
Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and T. Rex all had fewer fan votes than Dave Matthews and Pat Benatar.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
(Sorry, Pat Benatar should have been a shoe-in. 15 years she's been eligible, this is the first time she was actually nominated, and she loses to T.Rex? REALLY????? GRRRRRRRRRRRRR :grr)

(138 posts)The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lacks credibility for this very reason. However, I will respectfully disagree with you regarding Dave Matthews. A talented fellow, no doubt. However, I don't think that he's the influential entity that genre-defining bands like Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode are. With that said, Pat Benatar should have been in the moment she was eligible.

(3,447 posts)Pat was leading by a big lead until the Dave Matthews Band started campaigning on FB. However, since it didn't make a bit of difference, who cares? This was probably just a thing to get people's email addresses.
