Related: About this forumthe husband and i went camping this weekend
he randomly took last friday off and we decided to get out of town. we didn't go to our normal spot because i wanted a change of scenery (and our normal place is really not all that pretty), so we went to one of the established campgrounds in the national forest. it was pretty full, but still pretty quiet. i spent all day yesterday reading my kindle under the trees and listening to the breeze whisper through the aspens. the husband put up a hammock, we ate a lot and we just relaxed.
i'm filthy and beat (i never sleep well when i camp), but i had such a good time.
looking through the aspen
and into the fire
took a couple of walks
there was a nasty fire up there 21 years ago and it's still pretty barren in places

(24,146 posts)we get up to the mountains a few times a year, but it's only the third time in seven years that we've actually camped. i need to make a better effort at doing it.

(46,436 posts)because it's just getting to be too much of a hassle to tent camp at our age. We love to get out, though.

(60,082 posts)I spent the night in a tent during a severe thunderstorm. It was incredible. I was in a river valley so the thunderclaps bounced from one ridge to the other.

(90,803 posts)I enjoy camping but the others in my house want room service and mints on their pillows. Absolutely no sense of adventure.
Lovely flower shot.
a varied and thorough tour. Wonderful photos.
Love the fifth one, it has so much character.
