Big bend national park at night

I went to big bend to capture the milky way during the new moon. Big bend is rated one of the darkest sky locations in the continental US

this is a total of a 25 minute exposure (50 30 second exposures stacked together

I am always amazed at it, although I have only seen it that well once.

I thought that a new moon would be a better time to view the Milky Way though????

and it was the new moon. i guess the desert heat baked my brain. it was 110+ at the rio grande although in the basin where i took these photos it was 20 degrees cooler
