(4,074 posts)I love Paris. My wife and I went 5 years ago for our honeymoon. I've dreamed of going back ever since we got home. We said we would go back this year for our 5th anniversary but we don't have the money and are in the process of adopting so there is no chance. Maybe for our 10th anniversary . I just loved the city and I really want to go back now that I have a Digital SLR. I got some great pictures last time with my point and shoot but I would love to be there with my new camera.

(27,591 posts)those who do a lot of sports, or action. I think there are better cameras out there for that.

(60,082 posts)The only thing I don't like is their OIS. I much prefer IBIS.

(27,591 posts)It cost less than what they are selling the G3 alone on Amazon. The 200mm was well worth it ... just check the Sacre Couer shot between the buildings.
Also, the G3 is great for those who are put off by dragging a heavy DSLR on travels. It is so light that you barely notice it. After a few hours, the heavier DSLR's start to irritate me.

(60,082 posts)The difference in size.

(27,591 posts)lenses also will work...
with the adaptor you can use almost anything.

(60,082 posts)Industar 50-2 5mm 3.5. I also have two Canons from my old 35mm Rebel, and a 135mm Suntar telephoto. From what I've read, the 135mm is an easy lens to make, so it is easy to find a good quality lens in that fl.
The Industar is good with extension tubes, but it needs good light. It's bokeh is creamy. You need the hood for protection and adjusting the aperture. The Yashinon is a better portrait lens due to it's 1.7 aperture.

(60,082 posts)Comes in the M39 mount. I'd like to try some of the M39 lenses, but they usually cost more and I have a strick price restriction. Tightwad.

(27,591 posts)There are also a couple of good videos on Youtube for using old glass with the Lumix.
Easily doable...

The padlocks are locked by "just married" couples on their wedding day. Possibly something else in France. Maybe you should be there for your anniversary, and place your own lock, with your spouse.

(27,591 posts)For the record, this is the footbridge near the Orsay... the one with the statue of Jefferson at the end.

(17,346 posts)Most famous is the Pont des Arts. Buy a padlock from any of the souvenir stands along the Seine, write your names on the lock and throw the key into the river. It is a symbol of your love for each other.
We did this the first week in May.

(27,591 posts)Thanks for all of the nice comments... Today was one of those travel days when nothing seems to go right.
The worst part was going trying to go to Versailles. We got there smooth enough and we had our museum passes. However, we get there and there is a 2-3hr. line just to get through the gate. There is no longer a special entry for museum pass holders. We bailed and went back to the city and went to Les Invalides and the tomb of Napolean I. Later, we dropped-in on Galleries Lafayette.

(17,346 posts)Here's a couple of suggestions:
Check out the Hotel de Ville on the rue de Rivoli near BHV department store in the Marais - They often have free exhibits either in the side facing BHV or in the hall around the side.
There is also the Maison Européenne de La Photographie on the rue de Fourcy - leads down to the Pont Marie in the Marais.
I believe that the Helmut Newton exhibit is still on at the Grand Palais. You can buy tickets online - your hotel can print them out for you.
If you have an American Express card you can make use of the Vélib bicycles - buy a day ticket (good for 24 hours) for each member of your party, and you can use those gray bikes for 30 minutes at a time without paying extra - be careful to check the bike before you take it though, because if it's damaged you have to walk it to the next station (often bikes with the seats turned backwards are broken). Bicycle lanes all over Paris and it's a great way to avoid the Metro and the buses.
The Cartier-Bresson institute is down in Montparnasse and often has great exhibits - And there's a great little pizza restaurant called Pizza Enzo on rue Daguerre - but call for to reserve, even at lunch. Not expensive, but really good pizza and pasta.
If you haven't been to the Jardin du Luxembourg, try to get there. Some wonderful photographic opps and you can watch the Parisians and the tourists at play. There's a boules court over past the children's playground and some urban bee hives.
Place des Vosges is excellent and the Victor Hugo apartment is a free attraction as is the Carnavalet Museum in the Marais - it's the museum of the City of Paris.
Two great places for inexpensive food - Breizh - Breton crepes restaurant in the Marais and L'Estaminet in the Marché Enfant Rouge.
On the Isle St Louis at rue Jean de Bellay and Quai de Bourbon there is a fun bistro - Alsace food, the oldest espresso machine in Paris, and some of the older and more professional waiters. We go there all the time. Lots of Parisians as well and we've met some interesting people. Plus there's usually a jazz band or accordionist or mime performing on the bridge leading over to the Shoah memorial and Notre Dame. The Isle itself is always crowded. Look out for the original Berthillion ice cream shop which is just past the rue des Deux Ponts on the rue Saint-Louis en ile. Great flavors, quirky hours.
Looks like you're having a great time.

(39,345 posts)Thanks for sharing your pics of Paris, JCMach1. Don't usually come in here, but I followed the link from the homepage.
This is just the kind of thing I love exploring on a lazy Sunday Morning. Travel, ideas, and food.
Keep them coming, and your family is lovely. You all must be having a ball.
