I liked it, but then I am very partial to horses and horse racing, I just love watching horses run.
The first episode really hooked me.
Basically, it's by the creator of Deadwood, and about the world of horse racing in Southern California. Dustin Hoffman plays the main character "Ace" who has just finished a 3-year stint in prison for something related to organized crime or gambling. Now he's out and looking to get back into the game but it has to be through back doors because apparently he's banned from certain activities.
But that's only one part of the story. To me, the more engaging story is that of a group of gamblers who bet on the horses. I won't give it away, but the first episode ends with a story that could get really interesting...
So is anyone else planning to watch it? The second epiosode FINALLY airs tomorrow.

I can't find any place to watch for free on line.

(3,922 posts)I have not seen episode #2 yet, but I have to say I was really disappointed with the first one.
The first thing I would like to see (hear) fixed is the awful audio, which reduced much of the dialogue to a mumbling, indecipherable mess. I hoped for sub-titles at one point.
Dustin Hoffman basically mailed it in for Episode 1, although I did enjoy the RainMan-like shuffle he employed. His temper-tantrum scene was almost comical.
Dennis Farina, a favorite since the late, great Crime Stories days, was a non-factor.
Nick Nolte was a caricature.
The arc about the "derelicts" who hit the superfecta went nowhere until the trailer for the upcoming episode went on to reveal more-to-come in the way of the old gambling stand-by: addiction. Not a good sign there.
I thought some of the race sequences were poorly filmed with mulltiple scenes of the horses passing the tote boards. Did they go around the track twice??!
I'll be checking out #2 on-demand and hoping for better results.

(2,351 posts)Now, I'm anxious to see the next episodes. I love all the main characters so far.
Remember that photographer from the show "Dirt" with Courtney Cox a few years ago? He was the one that got so beat up in the 2nd episode of "Luck".
I'm liking this show, it just took awhile to get interested
