Protest Planned At The Site Of Donald Trump's New HotelIt's time to take action against Donald Trump, fed-up members of D.C.'s Latino community are saying. ... A protest at 12th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW - the site of Trump's future luxury hotel at the Old U.S. Post Office building - is scheduled for Thursday, July 9. This is in response to Trump's June 16th presidential announcement speech where he spent time criminalizing Mexican and Latin American immigrants:
"When Mexico brings its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems, they're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. It's coming from all of South and Latin America," Trump said, while promising to build a wall along the U.S's southern border. He doubled down on the inflammatory remarks yesterday in a three-page statement.
In response to comments, employees of José Andrés' ThinkFoodGroup have also urged the well-known chef to pull out of a planned restaurant in the hotel.
The protest will run from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and leaders such as Shadow Representative Franklin Garcia and Shadow Senators Paul Strauss and Michael D. Brown are slated to be in attendance. ... Follow along at #Trumpprotestdc.

(23,946 posts)A ton of racist space dog-whistle space, some say, has been opened up between anyone and Trump.
"How is any GOP candidate going to win over the religious extremists and racist voters in the first two Fox Primaries without occupying some of that space?" is the common thought among the Clown Car contenders.
The thing is I think America is actually, finally and irrevocably weary of there being any space at all for racists in politics in America.

(131,410 posts)If I were in DC now I'd surely protest! It's across the street from my former office, @ 12th + Constitution. Used to take my kids for lunch (and candy!) there, and bought shoes that perfectly matched my wedding dress at a little shop.
That old 'white elephant' building has been, and maybe will continue to be searching for a purpose, and it sure AIN'T trump!

Do you think that when were hanging out there from the eighth floor that were raping or selling drugs? Were risking our lives and our health. A lot of the chemicals we deal with are toxic.
Yes, Ramon, a lot of the chemicals you deal with are toxic, not the least of which is the toxic chemical mix of the owner himself, Donald Trump, 100% owner of the Old Post Office. The most toxic of all.
