Accountant accused of stealing $1M from Metairie shipping company
The financial controller for a Metairie shipping firm allegedly stole more than $1 million from the company before being arrested last week, according to law-enforcement officials.
Deepak Jack Jagtiani, 59, had allegedly deposited the money from Dan-Gulf Shipping Inc.s coffers into his bank account without permission, Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office spokesman Glen Boyd said Tuesday.
Dan-Gulf vice president Lowell Stewart said the firm couldnt comment on the allegations against Jagtiani, but said that the company is still on solid footing in spite of what happened.
Founded in 1993, Metairie-based Dan-Gulf is an international shipping firm, specializing in moving cargo, ranging from steel and forest products as well as explosives and hazardous commodities.
