Heads up people!...

Severe thunderstorms to bring risk of tornadoes to parts of Mass.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to bring damaging winds, hail the size of golf balls, torrential downpours, frequent lightning, and a slight risk of tornadoes across the state Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

The storms are expected to move west to east from noon to early evening, said Alan Dunham, a weather service meteorologist. The greatest risk for severe weather — including the large hailstones — is in western and Central Massachusetts, he said.

Boston and Eastern Massachusetts will see heavy rains and high winds, but not the hail, Dunham said.

Winds up to 70 miles per hour could knock down trees and power lines as the weather system moves across the state, he said. Heavy rainfall is expected to reduce visibility and cause localized flooding in poor drainage areas. Commuters should expect a slow drive home, Dunham said.
