Climate Defiance action in Michigan...

I recieved the following email and thought others might be interested...

FROM CLIMATE DEFIANCE: https://www.climatedefiance.org/

We’re sharing a big update today: we will converge on the keynote address of U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. And we will blockade it. We will shut it down. We will do so in Michigan 11 days from today. We ask you to join us in-person.

As we write we’re trapped in our homes. It’s unsafe to inhale outdoor air. Our countertops are coated in soot that drifted in through the windows. We are in a planetary emergency. We must act like it.

Granholm isn’t just complicit. She is an active fixer for oil and gas companies. She helps them profit off of the death and destruction of all we hold dear. In her time as Energy Secretary, Granholm has been a force of anti-nature.

She has personally advocated for the Mountain Valley Pipeline, which would carry 2,000,000,000 cubic feet of fracked gas. Every day. It would have the climate impact of adding 19,000,000 cars to the road.

It. Gets. Worse.

She also signed off on the Alaska LNG Project, a $38,000,000,000 monstrosity that will detonate a carbon bomb 10 times worse than even Willow.

She could change all that. In fact, it’s well within her wheelhouse and purview to save countless lives by simply pulling the plug on new oil and gas development.

Despite all Biden’s talk on his supposed climate successes, this administration has pushed through more oil and gas leasing on federal lands than even Trump had, at this point in his presidency.

On projects like Mountain Valley Pipeline and Alaska LNG, Granholm simply shuts her eyes and signs where they tell her.

We call this what it is: ecocide. The killing of nature. The ending of life. While she and Biden attempt to “both sides” the climate crisis, we see through the profit-motivated lies and recognize that any new fossil fuel expansion is a nail in the coffin of our climate, a death sentence for us, our families, everyone we know and everyone we don’t.

So we call bullshit. Granholm, get your act together, or get out of our way. When she acts as a shill for oil barons, when she puts all life at risk for the sake of political expediency, when she rubber stamps doomsday devices like Alaska LNG and the Mountain Valley Pipeline – she does not deserve to speak as our Energy Secretary.

The plan is simple: we’re going to shut down Jennifer Granholm’s keynote address. We need your help to do this – join us in Michigan on June 19th! You can sign up here:

Again, the most important thing is to **come to Michigan** but if you can’t, you can support this action here

You can reply to this email with any Qs. We closely monitor this info@climatedefiance.org mailbox.

Ball’s in your court, Granholm.

See you in Michigan.

With Russian oil being cut off, our government had to do something to hold inflation inline. A current necessary evil.

I don't know if there was anything else that could have been done to get that passed, but I do know that the faster we stop burning fossil fuels the less ecological and societal destruction will occur in the very near future.

Besides, there is everything inherently wrong with passing budgets, bills, resolutions, or any legislation based on anything other than the merit of the thing itself.
