It's strange when the closed lane is the one paved with concrete, and you have to drive on the lane paved with steel grate.

Even stranger when driving a motorcycle on the steel grate and you can look down and see the water. And the steel grate makes the motorcycle steering a bit random.

I wonder if the ferry still runs that strait.

it's one of the most uniquely beautiful areas in our country IMO. It's what makes Michigan really stand out too. My daughter has an internship there this summer and is loving it. Very proud of her.

Hate the 4th "up north". Too crowded.

that's what people who live in the U.P. in Michigan call Michiganders that live south of the bridge. And as a troll even I know you don't vacation there between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Head up in October when the trees change colors and prices go down and have a ball.

We have had a family place on a popular lake since the late 50's. My parents were downstate educators so I spent my entire summers there through my teenage years. Began to really appreciate the area during my late twenties. Now in my mid fifties, we are one of the last with original structures on our bay. Lake is still beautiful, but I prefer the quieter, less congested, and less noisy times of Autumn.

On the plus side, I got back to home in near record time on Sunday😀.

So glad I'm not in that line up, but it's good for the Yuppers. They need the business.

when it was closed to traffic and available just to walkers.
It was likely the most athletic endeavor of my life (and the coup de grace for my knees).

But going both ways. Now you get what it is like on the Outer Banks of North Carolina from Memorial Day until Labor Day. There were times when it took almost fifteen minutes just to pull out onto Hwy 12.

(Down home, we call all the visitors 'touron' with the plural being 'tourii'! There are also nicknames for sections of the beach. One very nice beach area is called 'Coquina' but we always called it 'little Ohio' due to the abnormal number of that license plate compared to the others in the parking lot.)
