Trump's vow to send special prosecutor after Clinton is 'unacceptable,' former Sen. Bob Kerrey says

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump went too far Sunday night by vowing to have a special prosecutor go after Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

That’s the assessment of former U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb., who said everyone needs to denounce such statements, regardless of ideological or partisan leanings.

“Republicans, Democrats and independents need to say ‘Look, Mr. Trump, you’ve crossed a lot of lines, but we cannot let you cross that line,’?” Kerrey said. “That has to become an unacceptable thing for any office-seeker at the federal level to say.”

Trump said during the debate that if he wins he will have his attorney general appoint a special prosecutor to look into Clinton’s “situation.”
