Gov. Murphy has signed a bill to end the COVID health emergency. Here's what to know

TRENTON — Gov. Phil Murphy on Friday signed a bill to end the public health emergency declared early in the COVID pandemic, ending the emergency in name with the majority of his executive orders set to expire in 30 days.

The bill, A5820/S3866, gives the governor power to continue 14 executive orders through Jan. 1, 2022. Dozens of other orders will end in 30 days.

The governor also signed another order ending the public health emergency as of Friday.

“Today’s lifting of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency is a clear and decisive step on the path toward normalcy,” Murphy said in a statement. “The past 15 months have been a challenge, and I thank every New Jerseyan who stayed home, masked up, took precautions to keep this virus in check, and got vaccinated for allowing us to get to this point."
