DCCC Likes Woolf

Posted by Liz Benjamin

Two days have passed since the Democrats selected Aaron Woolf as their candidate to run in retiring Rep. Bill Owens’ place in NY-21 this fall, and we still haven’t heard anything from him, aside from a statement in which Woolf declared himself “honored” to have the county chairs unanimous support and pledged to discuss his campaign plans in the “coming days.”

One thing we do know, however, is that the DCCC supports Woolf’s selection, despite the fact that he is 1) not a NY-21 native; 2) apparently not living full-time in the district; and 3) a political newcomer who has never before held public office.

I reached out to DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, a Long Island Democrat, to ask about Woolf, and received the following statement from Marc Brumer, the committee’s press secretary for the Northeast Region:

“Aaron Woolf is a very strong candidate who will take a common sense approach and is committed to working together to find solutions for North Country families. This is a very winnable seat for a strong Democrat as Bill Owens has proven in the three most recent elections. We will do everything we can to make sure it continues to be represented by a Democrat.”
