Charlie Rangel to be challenged by State Senator Adriano Espaillat

Eyewitness News
NEW YORK (WABC) -- It was a rowdy crowd as State Senator Adriano Espaillat waded through a crowd that is bent on revenge. It was a do-over from two years ago when Congressman Rangel pulled off a narrow victory.

"Last time he said he would be leaving in two years, and now he's saying two years down the road," said Espaillat.

Espaillat and many others thought Rangel would have retired by now. Rangel has already served 22 terms, but Rangel says he wants to keep working with the president.

Ironically, it was the president who suggested Rangel should step aside in the midst of scandal and congressional censure.
