US Rep Tom Marino unexpected resigned his seat today. Guess he didn't like being in the minority, but that's not his excuse.

Since there is already going to be a special election to fill Renschenthaler's seat in the state legislature on April 2nd, I'd expect this special election will be called for the same day.
PA-12 is a GOP-friendly district and encompasses the lightly populated counties along the northern border with NY state and below them through the mountains. But this district also includes State College, home to Penn State, and several other small colleges. In a low turnout special election, Centre County voters could swing the election to a Dem.

U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, today announced his resignation from Congress, effective Jan. 23.
He issued the following statement: As of Jan. 23, 2019, I am officially stepping down from Congress. Having spent over two decades serving the public, I have chosen to take a position in the private sector where I can use both my legal and business experience to create jobs around the nation. I want to thank the people of the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania for the faith they have placed in me to represent them in Congress. It truly has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I worked in Congress to fight for the hardworking people of our region and I am proud of the work we have accomplished. I am confident that the area will continue to thrive.

(32,917 posts)This is puzzling, but maybe it's an opportunity for a Democrat to snag his seat!
Here's the 12th district map:
It's a lot of sparsely populated counties in the north-central part of the state.
