Woolrich closing the store that was a destination point in Pa.
The original Woolrich outlet store that two decades ago was attracting an estimated 400,000 people annually to the Clinton County town that bears the company name is closing.
“It’s another disappointing story,” Michael Flanagan, president and CEO of the Clinton County Economic Partnership, said Thursday. It used to be a destination point, he said.
A liquidation sale is scheduled May 19-21 with the store closing its doors at the end of June.
Woolrich, which John Rich founded in 1830 and touts itself as “The Original Outdoor Clothing Company,” has been foreign-owned since 2016.
It likely is best known for its red and black check found in wool and flannel shirts and other products. That pattern was introduced in 1850 in the buffalo shirt.
Woolrich blankets were used by the Army in the Civil War and in World Wars I and II.
