Bethlehem man gets 8 years in prison for tax evasion, stealing taxes

A Bethlehem man who pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday and ordered to make $5.3 million in restitution.

Robert McAndrew Jr., 51, pleaded guilty in April to 21 counts of tax evasion, which includes stealing money his company’s clients paid to cover employees’ federal wage taxes and under-reporting his own income for four years.

The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Edward G. Smith in Easton. Under terms of the sentence, the prison stay will be followed by three years of supervised release.

McAndrew is owner-proprietor of NEPA Payroll Services Inc., which he founded in 2004. The company had contracts with several businesses to print checks and handle payroll taxes withheld from employees’ wages.
