Rhode Island lawmaker wants towns to become 'Second Amendment sanctuaries'
PROVIDENCE, R.I. A Rhode Island lawmaker is asking towns to declare themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries to oppose the governors push for stricter gun control laws.
Republican state Sen. Elaine Morgan said Friday shes asking the five towns in her district to follow the lead of the Burrillville Town Council. The council passed a resolution stating it supports the police departments right to exercise sound discretion when enforcing Second Amendment-related laws.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo has said opponents could lobby at the Statehouse but that seceding from state laws was not an appropriate response.
Morgans district includes parts of Hopkinton, Charlestown, Exeter, Richmond and West Greenwich. Shes asking them not to enforce laws that infringe on gun rights.
