Ted Nugent rant puts Texas Republicans in a bind

WASHINGTON - Ted Nugent’s racist rant against the president has put Texas Republicans in a bind especially Attorney General Greg Abbott.

So far, Abbott has resisted pressure to repudiate Nugent for calling Barack Obama, the nation’s first black president, a “subhuman mongrel.” Others have put distance between themselves and Nugent.

Aside from his support for Abbott, Nugent also serves as treasurer and co-chairman for Sid Miller’s campaign for agriculture commissioner.

Miller strategist and spokesman Todd Smith said Miller might not “use those same words to describe the president” but shares a “mutual disdain” for his policies.

“We are not going to do anything to distance ourselves from Ted Nugent,” he said.

"Might not use those same words..." What a wishy washy statement.

“Once again, Abbott is giving Texas voters reason to doubt him.” -- Dallas Morning News Editorial

Dear --

It's your turn, Greg Abbott.

Last night, Governor Rick Perry said, "I have a problem" with Ted Nugent calling the President a "subhuman mongrel."

Senator Rand Paul tweeted, “Ted Nugent's derogatory description of President Obama is offensive and has no place in politics. He should apologize.”

Ted Cruz said he didn’t agree with Ted Nugent’s sentiments, “You've never heard me say such a thing, nor would I."

And just moments ago, Ted Nugent finally apologized to the President for his disgusting remarks.

Greg Abbott, it's time to admit you made a mistake and apologize to the people of Texas.

Republicans are feeling the heat, and we can't back down now.

Thank you --

P.S. It’s your voice -- your tweets, your posts, and your emails -- that put the pressure on Ted Nugent to apologize. Show Greg Abbott that it’s his turn. ....

I agree that Greg needs to apologize
