Maxey Scherr was in the U.S. Senate chamber during the debate on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act in November. When the vote began, she said Sen. John Cornyns name was called six times. He was in the chamber, but he didnt respond. When he was called the seventh time, he voted nay.
Scherr said it wasnt just his no vote that convinced her to run for his seat, but his two thumbs down gesture and the look of disgust on his face when he voted.
That was pivotal for me, she said. Enough is enough.
A fourth generation Texan, Scherr is a single mom and a plaintiffs attorney from El Paso. Shes a first-time candidate but has been involved in previous campaigns, working for President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill White and others. She worked on the staff of former Rep. Silvestre Reyes, who has endorsed her.

(9,137 posts)I hope Maxey has a shot this year, we may need her come November.
Hmm, I wonder what her chances of getting elected if the Texas Tea Party types help Steve Stockman defeat John Cornyn in the Texas Republican senatorial primary?

(9,057 posts)There is something very odd about David Alameel that rubs me the wrong way. He looks like he's wearing lipstick and his accent is very distracting. Beyond that he says all the "right" things, but with that accent and what sounds like "Allah" in his name, I don't think Texans would embrace him. I know that's superficial, but I'm talking about most Texans and not myself.
