Dash for cash along I-20 in Weatherford after Brink’s truck loses a lot of money

About an hour ago Joel Aldridge posted to Facebook some very strange video out of Weatherford. Let him explain:

“Cash all over the highway. I thought this was a wreck on the exit to Home Depot in Weatherford but look at everyone’s hands they are picking up wads of cash.”

Turns out that is exactly what happened. Long story short: Some money fell out of a Brink’s armored car. Seriously. Happened at about 2:55 p.m. along Interstate 20, according to Weatherford police, which wants everone in that video to return the dough. Pronto.

Chris Crawford, the Weatherford Police Department spokesman, provides the blow-by-blow in a media release that reads like a treatment for a hilarious Coen Brothers film that takes a dark twist at the end.

On 4-10-2015 at approximately 2:55PM, the Weatherford Police Department started receiving phone calls in reference to individuals stopping along Interstate I-20 picking up loose money scattered on the roadway and median. Officers were quickly dispatched the area where small amounts of money were located along with a few individuals that had picked some of the loose money up off the roadway.

Officers were able to determine that the side passenger door of a Brinks Armored Truck traveling westbound on I-20 opened and a substantial amount of cash fell out of the truck. Brinks officials have told Weatherford Police that all of the money was originally packaged in a clear plastic bag.

Most of the money that fell out along with the roadway appears to have been concentrated between the 410 and 403 Mile Markers. The Armored Brinks truck was driving through the Weatherford area enroute to Abilene.

Weatherford Police would like to warn drivers and citizens in the area to not stop along the interstate and attempt to locate any cash. The presence of individuals along the interstate creates a hazardous situation for drivers and law enforcement in the area. At this time, it appears as if most of the money that was lost by the truck has been picked up by citizens traveling along the roadway. We strongly encourage those individuals to come forward and turn the money back in to the Weatherford Police Department.

Weatherford Police would like to remind everyone that the loose money is property of Brinks Armored Car Service. Weatherford Police will investigate and potentially prosecute any individual that has picked up any of the loose money and not returned it to either Brinks or the Police Department.
