South Plains family of man convicted for Blackwater shooting in Iraq hoping for appeal
A former Blackwater security guard from Dickens was convicted this week of manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and using firearms while committing a felony.
Family of Paul Slough the man who worked in Iraq during the 2007 shootings and was sentenced in federal court to 30 years and a day is hoping he will have a better outcome during his appeal process.
Defense lawyers are vowing to appeal the convictions of four former Blackwater security guards after a federal judge handed down lengthy prison terms for their roles in a 2007 shooting of unarmed civilians in Iraq, according to Associated Press reports.
Robin Neff, Sloughs sister, lives in Lubbock, and said the family knew that the outcome of this trial wasnt going to be an acquittal, and were glad it wasnt harsher than the minimum sentence he received.
