At rural Edinburg trailer, scores stashed without bathroom, food or electricity

NEAR EDINBURG — The trailer occupied less than 700 square feet and had no furniture. It lacked electricity and running water in the bathroom.

Yet, upward of 100 people packed themselves inside, according to U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Some of the immigrants inside said they’d held back from going to the bathroom for up to five days to try and keep the smell from worsening. But agents said it already stank of garbage and human waste.

One immigrant, a Salvadoran man, told agents he’d been at the trailer for five days. He said they had plenty of water to drink, but rarely enough food.
