Steve Blow: Leadership? Color me unimpressed by Rick Perry’s record

A couple of recent news events keep combining themselves in my mind.

One was former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s announcement that he’s running for president — and in particular how he stressed leadership as his defining virtue.

The other event came the next day, when the head of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission stepped down with scandal and dysfunction heavy in the air. Kyle Janek was a political friend and appointee of Perry.

Is it fair to connect those dots? I’m open to discussion. But the mess at Health and Human Services is no one’s idea of sterling government leadership.

It’s an agency “riddled with operational, managerial, structural and procedural problems,” said Perry’s replacement, Gov. Greg Abbott.

The thing to remember about Steve Blow is that he is not a liberal, at least not by the yardsticks most progressives and centrists use. He's actually fairly conservative.

The only people who would call Mr Blow a "liberal" are the denizens of the psychotropic carnival mirror fun-house that represents current "Movement Conservative" thought.
