Hearne City Council in hot water over possible violation of Open Meetings Act
HEARNE -- After two months with no quorum, the Hearne City Council has met several times with two new council members to discuss issues from roads to finances without filling several key leadership positions.
Both City Attorney Bryan "Rusty" Russ and Municipal Judge William Lund resigned last month, and City Manager Pee Wee Drake said he plans to retire at the end of July.
Emmett Aguirre and Shirley Harris were sworn in as new council members in May, and Mayor Ruben Gomez was sworn in for another term.
The council plans to appoint an interim judge and interim attorney at its June 23 meeting. But no city attorney was present when the council met for a workshop on Tuesday evening or during the weekend during a workshop retreat in Austin.
