Classic cars celebrated in Route 66 Great Race

AMARILLO -- Historic Sixth Avenue recalled days of old Monday afternoon as more than 100 classic cars made a stop on a cross-country event.

At 5 p.m., the 2015 Hemmings Motor News Great Race stopped in Amarillo as part of its trip across the famous Route 66.

Director Jeff Stumb said the idea for the race was to get classic cars out of their garages, barns and museums and onto the back roads of America.
