Recent vandalism at school in Temple may cost $1 million to repair
Vandalism to Temples old Emerson school will cost either about $1 million to repair or up to $450,000 to raze the building, Temple schools Superintendent Robin Battershell said Saturday at a meeting about ?juvenile ?crime.
Recent damage to the school includes broken toilets, sinks, doors and tiles, she said during the Community Action Forum at Wilson Recreation Center.
Concerned residents called for the meeting with city, police and school officials after the arson destruction of a new playground at James Wilson Park. Temple Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Beavers said replacing the playground equipment would cost $250,000.
The consensus was twofold: first, the offenders need to be held accountable for the costly damage they have caused, and second, they are so young everyone hopes they can be shown a better way.
