Former state Rep. Paul Moreno, 'true servant' of El Paso, dies at 86
Former state Rep. Paul Moreno (D) of El Paso, regarded as the "Conscience of the House" for defending the rights of the poor and the disabled, died Friday morning. He was 86.
Morenos only child, Annette Moreno Alvarado, said there were no words to express what her father meant to her, his three granddaughters and his two great-grandchildren.
To most people, he was a political figure, a state representative, but he was my daddy, a grandfather and a great-grandfather. He was a man who never failed us, a man who loved us with his last breath, Moreno Alvarado said.
I learned so much from him, from watching him interact with people from all walks of life. He taught me and my girls how to be public servants, to be compassionate and, most importantly, to be humble, she added.
