I attended his event today. He had made it his mission to visit all 254 counties in the state, and Cooke County (north Texas at the Oklahoma border on highway 35) was the last one. Not coincidentally, this was also the last county visited by Harry Truman on his 1948 whistle-stop tour for his long-shot campaign. Even the venue was the same, the Santa Fe Depot.
It's not a very large building, and the enthusiastic crowd was overflowing. Many sat outside listening on speakers set up to accomodate them.
He gave an inspiring speech and then took questions, as he has at every other county event. Afterward, he went outside and patiently posed for pictures with anyone who wanted to.
There was definitely energy and excitement in abundance in the crowd, which was nice to see.
He has a tough battle against the well-funded Cruz, who also boasts a formidable ground game and entrenched GOP infrastructure. At the very least, Cruz and the GOP will have to spend a lot more time and money this election. We are making them put up a fight, and that can only be good in the long run.
