Pregnant newlywed wins $1M sexual harassment verdict against Texas oilfield services firm

A federal jury has returned a $1 million verdict in the sexual harassment case of a pregnant newlywed fired after just four days on the job at a Midland oilfield services company.

Sara L. Roberts testified that she was hired at Brinkerhoff Inspection Inc. in September 2015 by personnel manager Keith Demby — only to lose the job days later after she disclosed that she was pregnant and recently married.

Jurors found that Roberts was the victim of sexual harassment and pregnancy discrimination, documents show.

Demby told Roberts in an interview that "a little birdie" told him she was pregnant, and he later expressed surprise that she had continued the pregnancy, according to the complaint.
