Houston ranked No. 1 US city for surviving zombie apocalypse

This is good to know

The city of Houston is known for its food, its diversity and, now, a preponderance of valuable options should you need to blast your way out of an undead invasion.

An analysis by landscaping company Lawn Love—a hallowed scientific body—found that the Bayou City is the best place to be in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Comparing the 200 biggest cities in the U.S., the report considered a number of survival categories to determine how residents might fare in each location, including "vulnerability, hideouts, supplies, protection and mobility."

Other considerations in the mix included population density, access to "bunkers," and hunting stores. Houston, unsurprisingly, is tops in the nation for "protection," earning the No. 1 overall score for its abundance of weapons and ammunitions shops, outdoor gear stores and its number of shooting ranges and firearms training facilities. H-Town also ranked No. 4 for "mobility," which considered cities' walk scores, number of airport and helipads and port access (shout-out Port of Houston). We also chalked up a No. 2 for "supplies," thanks to an excess of H-E-B and Kroger locations.

"Texas is a standout state for zombie survival in our ranking this year," Lawn Love stated in its analysis. "Three Lone Star cities—Houston (No. 1), San Antonio (No. 3), and Austin (No. 6)—finish in the top 10, alongside other big cities like New York (No. 2) and Los Angeles (No. 5)."

"Houston is most prepared to fight zombies, with the most hunting gear stores, 18, and weapons and ammunitions stores, 60," the report continues. "Houston also claims the most airports and helipads and has Gulf Coast access via port and marinas to escape the living dead."
