Air Force: Further cost-cutting will not include B-1 bomber over next five years

WASHINGTON — An Air Force proposal to save money over the next five years doesn't make additional cuts to the B-1 Bomber fleet, already slated to shrink by six aircraft.

Dyess Air Force Base has 40 B-1s assigned to it and is expected to lose four in fleet reductions that became law late last year.

Big Country congressional lawmakers leveraged an amendment into the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act prohibiting additional B-1 cuts through 2017.

"I am pleased the Air Force's strategic plan for the next five years reflects the value and importance of the B-1," said U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, who represents Abilene.
