WASHINGTON A fatal vehicle fire shut down traffic in both directions on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Wednesday.
And while traffic has reopened in both directions on the bridge, Outer Loop through lanes could remain closed during Wednesday evenings rush hour.
@MDSP on scene of I-95/495 crash estimate NB main lanes of interstate over Woodrow Wilson Bridge should be reopened within four hours. Crash investigation and cleanup are continuing. All southbound and NB local lanes are open.
....
The blaze was ignited after a northbound tractor trailer lost control and struck a boom truck and two other highway construction vehicles, according to Maryland State Police. That crash killed the tractor-trailers driver. Seven others were treated and released. One was taken to the hospital.
Hours later, at 6:30 p.m., traffic was just unbelievably backed up in Alexandria. I've never seen it like this before. Miles from the WW Bridge, traffic was lined up.
Traffic is NASTY out there tonight folks, likely due to residual issues on 495. APD cannot move people through intersections if there is no where for them to go. We are stuck in it too, lets all practice patience.
