From WVIR-TV
(BALTIMORE, Md.) - An organization in the Shenandoah Valley was in Baltimore on Friday morning as a Guatemalan woman and her son were reunited.
Beata Mariana De Jesus Mejia-Mejia was reunited wither her 7-year-old son, Darwin, early Friday morning after being separated for a month. Mejia was put in jail in Arizona and her son was taken to a detention center at the U.S. border while trying to seek asylum in the United States.
Libre by Nexus, located in Harrisonburg, has a mission to help immigrants navigate the United States legal system. Nexus paid for Meijas jail bond and helped her win in U.S. District Court on Thursday to get her son out of the detention center.
Meija and her son traveled from Guatemala to the U.S. border over a period of weeks, traveling more than 1,800 miles by foot. According to Meija, they fled their home country to escape certain death.

(183,071 posts)In the 90's Clinton turned refugee placement over to religious groups and they tend to move people near them. Beautiful country. My folks live out there.
Great story.

(17,521 posts)I was going to head over the mountain today and feed a cat and do some book keeping, but it was foggy on Afton and I was lazy too. I'll head over in the morning.

(17,521 posts)I'll be heading over in an hour. I-64 is rather foggy at the moment. If it burns off I'll take a mental health side trip on the Parkway on the way home.
I've worked at least twenty weddings in the greater Roanoke area with the band. Several in the band came from there. Some beautiful outdoor venues in the area. I'm benched from working with them at the moment, but they are in DC tonight near the White House.
Safe trip
