Customer accidentally shoots woman at Oak Harbor restaurant

OAK HARBOR — An 80-year-old woman who was accidentally shot while eating dinner at an Oak Harbor restaurant Friday night is recovering, according to police.

The 57-year-old Coupeville man who inadvertently fired the gun in the crowded restaurant was arrested, booked and released. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge him with a crime.

Oak Harbor Police Chief Kevin Dresker said the man, who has a concealed license permit, was armed with a .40-caliber handgun at Fraser’s Gourmet Hideaway. The gun owner removed the weapon, placed it on his chair and covered it with a napkin when he momentarily stood up.

The man was placing the gun back in his holster when it fired, Dresker said. The bullet went through the tablecloth and struck the woman, who was seated at another table. The bullet went through her shoulder and exited from her chest area. The woman didn’t initially realize she had been hit.

Accidently? Why did he need to pull his gun out in a restaurant? The guy sounds like an idiot.

2. It takes a Good Guy with a Gun to stop an 80 year old woman from eating her dinner in a restaurant.

I would like to see Good Guy with a Gun stories replace Florida Man stories. I know there are plenty out there.

they wouldn’t charge this guy with something!

Citizens should have the right to eat in a restaurant without getting shot, ffs!

4. People who are so paranoid they feel the need to be constantly armed should STAY HOME, IMHO.

There are few things that can't be purchased, via placing an on-line order. They can just request any deliveries be left on the stoop, and then they can allow their paranoia to shield them, as they open the door to bring the object(s) inside.

But then there's this scenario, too. I have a cousin who is of that mind-set. Don't even THINK about dropping by his house without calling, first. He doesn't deal well with spontaneity, of any ilk because, apparently, a whole lot of the world is out to get him.

I knew plenty of people who owned guns because they hunted. Don't think I knew anyone who carried one or at least they never admitted to such.

My guess per this moron however is he's probably one who did what's known as appendix carry. Basically it's a holster that attaches to one's belt and keeps the firearm concealed in their pants near their appendix.

The proponents of such claim it gives one quick access to their firearm. It also increases the risk of shooting oneself in the junk or the femoral artery.

Anyhow I'm thinking the guy removed his gun because appendix carry makes it uncomfortable to sit. Very likely he had a round in the chamber, didn't have the safety on and touched the trigger when reaching for his gun.

I don't buy the claim accidental discharge.

I do have a picture of my active duty neighbor on my old laptop from 6 years ago, I think I shared it here once, he always would strap on a side arm to mow his lawn. His buddy would come over and they would go to the grocery store, WE (mass delusion?) would see them carry in the grocery sacks sidearms in plain sight.
THEN there is the retired military guy up at the Oak Harbor Marina, he likes to roam the docks in the evening with a huge gun in a western style holster. I’ve personally never seen a gun that big outside of a movie screen. Come to Oak Harbor, great place to vacation, most of us are friendly.

I remember one in a backpack a few years ago north of houston, hitting a little old lady. I felt sad to think she was spending six months in rehab when she may have had only a couple years left.
