Man arrested after firing gun on Bremerton ferry

A King County man was arrested Saturday after he fired a handgun off the state ferry Kaleetan during an evening sailing out of Bremerton.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kevin Fortino said the 38-year-old man drove onto the vessel and at some point during the crossing, fired a gun from the edge of the car deck into the water.

It's unclear why the man fired the gun. The shot was not specifically directed at anyone or anything, and the man did not make a statement to troopers when the vessel arrived in Seattle, Fortino said.

The shot attracted the attention of crew members, who had the man place the firearm in his vehicle and took him to the first mate's office for the remainder of the sailing, Fortino said.
