Vast majority of Washington's small businesses saw drop in revenue amid coronavirus pandemic

A majority of Washington's small businesses polled in a recent survey reported the novel coronavirus pandemic had a significant negative impact on them, including a decrease in revenues and temporary closures.

A survey from the U.S. Census Bureau conducted between April 26 and May 2 found 54.8% of small businesses in the state said the pandemic had a "large negative effect" on them. Another 35.1% of Washington businesses surveyed said the crisis had a "moderate negative effect."

Nearly three-quarters of Washington businesses included said they had experienced a decrease in operating revenues and 47.5% of businesses in the state reported having to temporarily close locations -- for at least one day.

The survey also found nearly 10% of small businesses in Washington had missed a loan payment and 22.5% reported missing other payments.
