Affordable housing group proposal could include development tax; DPD suggests up to $28-per-SF
As Seattle Mayor Ed Murray's affordable housing committee prepares to issue its much-anticipated 10-year plan, one of the group's co-chairs Thursday told a group of real estate developers what to expect.
People on all sides of the issue will find something not to like in the plan, Faith Pettis said during a panel discussion. She indicated that developers will see the controversial "linkage fee," and that residents in the city's single-family neighborhoods will need to accept more density.
"If we come up with a solution that doesn't hurt every single interest group around the table, we've failed," Pettis said during the panel that the local chapter of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) put on.
She added that if Seattle fails to act, the city will have "the very, very wealthy... and then you'll have subsidized housing for the very lowest income levels. You won't have the workforce housing that we need."
