Boeing considering new mid-market jet sized between 737 and 787
My guess is Boeing will be fishing for tax incentives from states who want to build this. If we do that again this time we should tie the tax breaks to tangible results of jobs actually being created.
Boeing (NYSE: BA) may build a new commercial aircraft aimed at the middle of the market in the next decade, and that could be very good news for the Puget Sound region.
The new jet would be slightly larger than the 737 and smaller than a 787, according to the Seattle Times, and could potentially begin production as early as 2025.
A year ago, we werent convinced the market was large enough to be of that much interest, sales chief John Wojick told the Times. What weve determined over the past year is that its larger than we thought.
Wojick said Boeing is looking at a plane seating 220 to 280 passengers with a range of 4,500 to 5,000 miles,
Thats larger than a 757 and flies farther than a 757, he said.
The 757 was discontinued in 2004.
