Rain, power outages, and icy roads continue in wake of 'great melt-out'
Slick roads and power outages remain in the wake of Western Washingtons snowstorms. Warmer temperatures and a little rain cleared away some of the snow Tuesday, but the National Weather Service says that the ice and slush wont disappear too soon.
University of Washington Meteorologist Cliff Mass calls it the great melt out, which he says should begin as Western Washington temperatures begin to rise. But Dustin Guy with the National Weather Service further notes that it will take a while for the snow, ice, and slush to disappear.
Because of the amount of snow weve had, just the sheer quantity weve seen in the last three or four days, its gonna take some time to melt that off, he said. Its not going to be like the kind of snowfall where we have an inch or two and it disappears in the space of a day.
Rain will continue to fall throughout the region for the rest of the week, although the NWS notes that weather patterns past Saturday are difficult to predict. It goes on to admit that more storms are possible next week.
