As snow turns to rain, flood warning issued in Seattle and other urban areas
As snow turns to rain Tuesday, the National Weather Service warns of possible flooding in urban areas in King, Pierce and Thurston counties, including the cities of Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia.
An urban area and small stream flood warning was issued for Tuesday morning in those areas through 10 a.m. Rain coupled with snowmelt could cause areas of "considerable" standing water and possible road closures, NWS said in a tweet. "Never drive across flooded roads," the tweet warns.
The Washington State Department of Transportation reported wet, slushy roads in some areas beginning before 6 a.m.
Meanwhile, other areas remained under a winter weather advisory, including western Snohomish County and central King County, or winter storm warning, including eastern parts of those counties. Areas under a winter weather advisory could expect to see 1-3 inches of snowfall through Tuesday morning.
