Darn! 11 of 52 National Forest campgrounds up north to close

11 campgrounds in the Chem-Nic National forest to close completely. I grew up camping up in some of them. laurel lake especially....

Not so much from lack of funding, but from lack of use. Rustic camping numbers down from 108K per to 80k.....no Wi-Fi I guess They are shutting down a lot of services at parks across the north ( mostly bathrooms). Some beaches and boat ramps wont be maintained

Lack of crowds was always one of the benefits

I'd much rather visit a quiet campsite that wasn't overcrowded and jammed with so many people that you couldn't enjoy the setting.

Could be aging population, could be different lifestyles

Many outdoor activities are seeing a decline, fishing etc

I was only half joking about the no wi-fi thing ......

Truth is if you are really into rustic camping, you can camp anywhere in the forest, any national forest
