New Marquette poll results are bad news for Walker

http://law.marquette.edu/poll/

His approval is down to 41% (56% diapproval) and his budget proposals are unpopular (78% oppose cuts to public education, 70% oppose UW cuts).

In a presidential race match-up, Hillary beats Walker 52% to 40%.

In a senate match-up, Feingold 54% and Johnson 38%.

it IS good news. I think most of the drop is attributable to Walker's brazen "unofficial" campaign for President, as he all but ignores the people who elected him. Nobody likes feeling used when it becomes obvious that's what is happening- not even a lot of conservatives, apparently. I also think Walker is getting a LOT more push back than he bargained for against his anti-UW rhetoric and budget proposals.

Marquette Law School Poll finds Walker job approval down

Clinton leads presidential matchups; controversy over budget

MILWAUKEE – A new Marquette Law School Poll finds Gov. Scott Walker’s job approval rating has fallen to 41 percent, with 56 percent of registered voters in Wisconsin saying they disapprove of how he is handling his job as governor. In the previous poll, in October 2014, Walker’s approval among registered voters was 49 percent, with 47 percent disapproving.

To look ahead to a possible 2016 presidential matchup, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads Walker in Wisconsin, 52 percent to 40 percent.

In a possible 2016 U.S. Senate race, former Sen. Russ Feingold has the support of 54 percent of registered voter, leading incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson, who has 38 percent, with 9 percent not expressing a preference.

“Election matchups at this point show us where candidates are lining up at the start of the race,” said Charles Franklin, professor of law and public policy and director of the Marquette Law School Poll. “The eventual outcome, of course, depends on how they actually run the course. Having an early picture allows us to measure how the campaign changes voters’ preferences over time.”.......

MARQUETTE POLL | CLINTON FAVORED OVER WALKER, 52-40
Scott Walker approval rating makes 'significant drop' in Wisconsin

...................In a conference call with reporters from Spain, where he is wrapping up a weeklong European trade mission, Walker attributed the drop in his approval rating to the budget process. He said governors typically see lower approval numbers during budget deliberations.

Walker said there has been “little or no talk” about how the budget lowers property taxes and caps UW System undergraduate tuition. The budget lowers property taxes on an average Wisconsin home by $5 in each of the next two years.

“Those are all really positive things, and really nobody is talking about those things,” Walker said. “They’re only talking about things where there might be some level of disagreement.”

Walker said the state’s budget outlook should improve in May, when the Legislative Fiscal Bureau releases new revenue estimates. He said any additional anticipated revenues could be used first to reduce the state-aid cuts to K-12 public schools, and then “there’s some possibility that they can tweak some of the budget adjustments to the University of Wisconsin.”
