The Journal-Sentinel website barely mentions the announcement for governor that Kathleen Vinehout made yesterday afternoon. They give it a few dismissive sentences buried on the All-Politics blog page, where only political junkies would look. (This junkie found it only by using the search function.)
This morning they still had a link on the main page to the article about Falk's formal announcement, which occurred the day before yesterday and was well covered, with large photograph. In today's prominent article about the unions asking Democratic candidates to promise vetoing the budget if it doesn't restore collective bargaining, they mention Falk several times, starting right at the top. Tom Barrett comes in near the beginning. Tim Cullen, who decided not to run, is quoted in three paragraphs beginning with the 11th. It takes them until paragraph 30 to mention Vinehout at all. (Barca is in the 32nd paragraph.) Does this tell us anything about their preference for who runs against Walker? And what conclusion should we draw from that?

(3,577 posts)It's good to hear your impression. One person on Kos thought she wasn't "serious and professional." It seems to me that Wisconsin people like "down-to-earth" leaders. Maybe that's what they saw in Tommy Thompson for all those years?

(140 posts)That Falk timed the announcement of WEAC's endorsement and her commitment to vetoing any budget that doesn't reinstate CB on the same day as Vinehount jumping in the race. Falk had those cards already in her back pocket and used them to piss on KV's parade. Common tactic and Journal Sentinel fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
Of all the candidates- announced, unannounced, on the fence- I've been most attracted to Vinehout and Barca. They both showed tremendous leadership during the battle last spring. Being from SE WI and having met Mr Barca, I know he'll do what's right and fight fiercely for it. I admit I'm somewhat of a homer as well. I think that image of either of them fighting for what's right in the chambers of the Capitol last year is an attribute that will resonate and propel us to victory.
I'm concerned that these recent events are propelling Falk out front very quickly, and that anyone else sitting on the fence had better get in. Now.
