Drought summit as rivers in England dry up

Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman is hosting a drought summit as parts of England struggle with groundwater levels lower than in 1976.

She has invited water companies, farmers and wildlife groups to discuss the situation in south-east England, East Anglia and the East Midlands.

Ms Spelman said she wants the meeting to work out "preventative measures" that could be taken now.

Anglian Water says some reservoir levels are 20% lower then normal.

If there's anything we can count on now, it's ever more extreme weather.

Much of Central America didn't have their wet season this year, it was wet well year. Some places are going to receive far more rain, some far less, and none of it is going to be predictable. We've thrown the system into chaos.
