Does anyone have a link? My Marine son is in need of some more deprogramming and I can't find the link. Not too long ago someone posted a chart of the accomplishments by category. Do any of my fellow BOGites remember?

(58,162 posts)when the right wing starts their crap tell him that obama is implementing the bush/naval plans of refocusing on the Chinese threat to the nations of the south china sea. i read about this in a proceedings magazine in 2005 or 6. the marines are going refocus on their true mission..seaborne attack and landing. obama walks the walk when it comes to getting what is needed for the military.

(8,492 posts)My kid really isn't that much of an idiot. When he's in the same room with me or my friends, he's an intelligent, left-leaning Independent. But, after spending a few months with some of his more conservative Marines, he loses brain cells. 2 minutes into a call from mom and he's agreeing with me.
And, when I told him about the military hiring bill he was thrilled. Not for himself, but for "his" Marines that have no other skills than how to shoot at things.
His wife is from Okinawa, so your first point will make a big impact. I'll see if I can find a link for the info.
Thank you!

(25,183 posts)aren't good enough for your son?
Getting his fellow military out of Iraq should count for something, too.

(8,492 posts)Yes, he is obviously glad to see his buddies coming home from Iraq, but they're all waiting to get out of Afghanistan. While he was obviously just as thrilled about Kaddafi and bin Laden as the rest of us are, he's also aware that we have other things on our plates.
He just gets his info from the wrong sources. It doesn't take long for me, or anyone else that can point to facts, to turn him around again. Normally, when he hears something that sounds way off base, he calls me to fill him in on the truth. That's not always convenient, so then I have to play catch-up and that takes a few more minutes of deprogramming.
Plus, I gotta give him a bit of a break. He's on his last week in the Corps and he's pretty emotional. It's male-bonding overdrive, right now. He's watched a lot of his closest friends leave already in the past couple of months. He's really torn between "glad to be done" and "wanna stay". He'll be okay after a few months.

(53,061 posts)Sometimes the greatest accomplishments are the things that didn't happen.
Military Accomplishments fall into that category;
The wars that didn't start
The refugees that weren't created
The war crimes that didn't happen.
No one remembers it now but Russia and Georgia were approaching a war footing regarding treatment of Russians in South Ossetia.
South Ossetia.
Not only didn't we get involved in that war but temperatures cooled and no war happened between Georgia and Russia.
That is the kind of military that you want to see.
No one got killed and no one remembers.
Its almost like it never happened. Fortunately we have youtube to remind us what the alternative was;
