http://www.dailynewsbin.com/news/bernie-sanders-staffers-and-volunteers-call-on-him-to-drop-out-of-race/24805/Now that Hillary Clinton has pulled ahead by millions of votes in the democratic primary race and is guaranteed to become the partys nominee within weeks, various prominent voices on the left have begun calling on her opponent Bernie Sanders to exit the race sooner rather than later so Clinton can turn her full attention toward battling republican nominee Donald Trump. Now a number of Bernies own key staffers and volunteers are calling on him to drop out.
The central matter of contention is whether Bernie Sanders will exit the race on June 7th, after the final states cast their primary votes and by which time he will have been mathematically eliminated, or whether hell try to keep his defeated campaign nominally intact until the Democratic National Convention in late July. Now some of his own key people are urging him to drop out in June and form his own organization aimed at pushing back against Trumps extremist rhetoric, which would indirectly help mobilize progressives to vote for Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Regardless of when Sanders drops out of the race, hell likely be given some degree of input on the Democratic Party platform, and if he agrees to throw his support behind Hillary Clinton, a prime time keynote speaking slot at the convention. The raises the question of just what he would accomplish by keeping his campaign technically active for an extra month and a half beyond June 7th, and its why some of his own people want him to drop out and shift his focus in a more timely fashion.
Meanwhile Sanders has recently begun pivoting his daily stump speech away from attacks on Hillary Clinton, in favor of more prominently attacking Donald Trump instead. Its not clear how much of this may be a result of Trumps recent Twitter attacks on Sanders, or how much of it may be that even his own support network is now privately nudging him toward a general election focus.
Its time Bernie ......... ship is sinking

(15,376 posts)as mentioned in this article, are indeed the kinds of reasonable people that many of us have believed that most of his supporters are.
It certainly helps to see that they are giving him good advice. Such actions help to ease the sheer fury with which stories of outrageous actions of the most rabid "supporters" have been met. I include myself among those who are irate about the news from NV today, for example.
But Bernie must be seen to be doing something about the rabid ones - and fast - or any shreds of credibility he has remaining will be entirely eclipsed.

(15,376 posts)reasonable ones don't post sh** about Hillary ALL the time. Most of the anti-Hillary crap posted here seems to come from the same small group of zealots or from brand new DUers. It's getting so one can almost predict the names. I admit that I have been VERY disappointed by some long-time DUers, but more have simply ceased to post at all. I must also admit that I have so many people on Ignore (the list grows on a daily basis) that I don't see a LOT of the crap.
But I am still convinced that the rabid ones do NOT represent the majority of Sanders supporters.

(9 posts)I mourn that the true progressive agenda will be derailed by a lesser, backward-looking corporatist version of the party for 4 or 8 years. There is little difference between the GOP and HRC.
Our better selves, our more audacious and generous dreams, should guide us.
Sure, Bernie's ideas seem absurd to some. But every measure of real forward social progress has at one time. Hillary is more of the same.
We can do better. We can think larger. We can dream higher.
Sad.

(9,494 posts)it's Bernie himself and his Followers that seem ridiculous and dangerous. Especially after his campaign's behavior in Alaska and Nevada today. They are likely to become violent outside of the GOP convention and, even more so, inside the Democratic convention.

(42,862 posts)... through neglect and indifference, it has been permitted to continue and metastasize. I understand that "clicks" and "ad impressions" have an immediate monetary value, and the frantic pace of this web site is probably generating much desired income for the owners.
But, at what cost? What are the long-term effects for the short-term flurry of page views? Perhaps the owners have more confidence in the resiliency of the community and its ability to heal itself. Personally, I'm a bit more skeptical and see what's going on as irreparable damage to both the community and to the reputation of the web site itself.
(No disrespect intended, these are my personal observations and that's my opinion. There are doubtlessly others who may disagree and who have opinions that may differ, but this one is mine. It is not against the rules to have an opinion that differs from others.)

(25,525 posts)I think a lot of this is just primary politics and for show to keep the donations coming in. In the end, I think he knows that June 7th is the end of the road and will act accordingly once those results are tabulated. Assuming something bizarre doesn't happen, of course, like winning California by 90%.

(2,897 posts)I kind of want him to stay so that the campaign trail becomes a living hell and his legacy is that of a sore loser. Obama, the DNC, and many other groups are not going to be stymied by whether or not he lingers in the background. They're going to take the fight to Trump and support Hillary. I hope the White House sends out a Priebus like tweet declaring Hillary the presumptive nominee on the 7th before Bernie concedes.

All I know he last any control over the angry crowds and their not going to play nice just look at today NV convention

(879 posts)he'll drop out after he loses California and NJ. Or even if he wins something that day. Why would he want to stick around for an extra week when the only contest is a city that's 50% African-American is going to vote? It literally could not be worse for him. It's a city of minorities and people who have a positive opinion of the federal government as the employer in that area. That could be a beat-down the likes of which we haven't seen in any primary on either side. If he drops out before, though, it's that he didn't contest and not that he got slaughtered.

(236 posts)Jane. I saw her interview on MSNBC after the losses April 26 and the MSNBC commentator was stating the news just in was that the campaign was reassessing its forward movement and Jane totally disavowed it saying no, they were continuing to the end. Next day was that the campaign was continuing to the end.
That being said, I also do not believe Bernie cares anything about the democratic party or unity, so why not spend all the money he has raised while he has it? If he does not spend it, it goes to the DNC - and to Hillary as the candidate. For someone who criticizes the money in politics he certainly seems to enjoy it.
