To 'keep him in the tent'? Possibly seats on a platform committee...
(Let's see, $12 vs. $15/hr minimum wage, so they'll say $13.50?? Is this a sticking point?!?)
He's not in the tent. He didn't want to be to begin with. He's still wielding influence, getting in the way of what he says he champions, and apparently he isn't going to endorse Clinton with the same graciousness she endorsed Obama, and therefore can have a tantrum if the DNC doesn't pacify him.
Never EVER thought I could think so little of Sen. Sanders.

From a big picture perspective, if it takes a couple of minor concessions to make him shut the hell up about fellow Democrats, drop out on the 8th, and rally behind Hillary, then I can't really complain about it too much. The sooner everyone focuses on November, the better.
Would I prefer he gets nothing? Sure, but he was always going to get something. That's kinda how we roll.

I guess threats and holding democracy hostage is how it's done in a "democratic socialist" state.

(25,517 posts)I get what you're saying, and I agree with it. That being said, I think we're into the political theater stage of the process where he whines, they make a few minor concessions, and he gets on the bandwagon.
It's a little unique that the person asking for the concessions is attacking the party and the organization he's negotiating with and not just his opponent, so I think he's going to face a little more resistance from the DNC than one normally would. I think, in the end, he'll probably get about what they wanted him to have in the first place. Which is not much, preferably.

(10,014 posts)Although the platform is important because it sets the goals for the party, few people read it or feel the need to follow it. The platform has been pro-choice for a long time but that doesn't mean you're kicked out of the party if you're anti-choice.
Sanders' idea of governing is to hand people a copy of the platform and then say, "Look how progressive I am and if you don't agree with me then your are a corporatist, war-mongering billionaire!". No mention of what he actually accomplishes toward the goals in the platform.

(70,464 posts)DNC to offer Sanders a convention concession

In an attempt to head off an ugly conflict at its convention this summer, the Democratic National Committee plans to offer a concession to Sen. Bernie Sanders seats on a key convention platform committee but it may not be enough to stop Sanders from picking a fight over the partys policy positions.
Allies of both Clinton and Sanders have urged Democratic leaders to meet some of Sanderss more mundane demands for greater inclusion at the Philadelphia convention. Their decision to do so is expected to be finalized by the end of the week, according to two people familiar with the discussions. But growing mistrust between Sanders supporters and party leaders have threatened to undermine that effort.
Even with the committee assignments, Sanders plans an aggressive effort to extract platform concessions on key policies that could prompt divisive battles at a moment when front-runner Hillary Clinton will be trying to unify the party. Among other issues, he plans to push for a $15 national minimum wage and argue that the party needs a more balanced position regarding Israel and Palestinians, according to a Sanders campaign aide who requested anonymity to speak candidly.
Much like their view that the economy has been rigged to benefit the wealthy more than the middle and working classes, Sanders supporters have become increasingly convinced that national Democrats have stacked the political deck with rules that have made it difficult for Sanders to win enough delegates to threaten Clintons nomination. ......................
Party leaders, meanwhile, have grown more frustrated with Sanders, who they say has unfairly fueled that perception.
I dont think theyve handled it very well and I think theyve lost the moral high ground on this, said Ken Martin, chairman of Minnesotas Democratic-Farmer Labor Party. Its very clear now that the longer they stay in this race the more damage theyre doing.

DNC will put Bernie Sanders supporters on key national convention committees: report

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) agreed to add more supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to the committee writing the partys platform, and could do the same for two committees at the partys national convention, the Washington Post reported.
Committee chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) reportedly agreed to add more Sanders backers to the 15-person drafting committee, after initially appointing three to the group. Sanders, who currently trails former Secretary of state Hillary Clinton in the race for the partys presidential nomination, had asked for each candidates to have seven supporters on the committee, joined by a neutral appointee from Wasserman Schultz.
According to the Post, Sanders also demanded that more of his supporters be placed on convention committees covering credentials and rules, saying that his campaign would take the matter to the convention floor in July otherwise.
Minnesota Democratic-Farmer Labor Party chair Ken Martin, who is supporting Clinton, told the Post that he and several state party leaders urged Wasserman Schultz to meet the demands.
There are other chairs who probably feel that way and feel like this is my party and f*ck Bernie Sanders, Martin said. Im not one of those. I feel very passionately that we have to open up that party and make sure that those voices are heard.
The Post reported that negotiations regarding the committee positions could be finalized this week, ................a bite more.
